Picture Predicament

Quick question for everyone:

I'm really not too crazy about the photos I take and post to the blog, but I'm not sure how to make them better!  For the most part they are blurry and not great quality; I'm not sure if it's my camera or me, but does anyone have any tips on how to photograph well?  Like, flash or no flash?  How to light the area when snapping shots?  Maybe I need to study up on how to work my particular camera and the options it has, but if anyone has any quick tips that may help me out, I'd really appreciate it!  ;)

  1. Studying up on your camera's options is a good idea. Then you'll know what is available to you.

I use the macro/closeup setting on my camera (which helps get clear photos closeup, instead of blurry ones), and photograph letters in diffuse sunlight with no flash. It limits my photography to the daytime hours, but I get much better results that way.

  3. Thanks! It was lovely to hear that, I was actually inspired by the fact that if you can write about mail and food, well I can write about mail and books (which I love lots but rarely have time to read when school is in session). In terms of photography, I think Ilona's advice is key, I have a pretty fantastic camera so it's quite difficult to take bad photos which works to my advantage in this case. That said, I'm not sure my mail photos are anything special, but I do avoid un-natural lighting and the flash because of the glare. I also think it's better to set the mail on a surface that is not to distracting (ie: a floral tablecloth wouldn't be the best idea) but I'm pretty sure you do that anyway.

  4. Ilona's basically said it all, lol. I also like taking pictures with natural sunlight, but most of the time I can't since I'm out at school or something, but occasionally I do. And then I like doing an auto-fixing thru Picnik.com, but sometimes it's a hassle and super time-consuming.

By the way, I got your awesome letter in the mail today! Thank you! :)
